Undergraduate Application Requirements

To confirm that your application for admission is complete, make sure that you meet the following requirements:

  1. Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study

Submit a complete application including all required supplements as outlined on this page and in the application instructions. We understand that fulfilling all parts of your application (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) may be difficult at this time given the Coronavirus pandemic, so the Undergraduate Admissions Committees will remain flexible and review delayed application materials on a case by case basis.

However, please note that incomplete applications as of one deadline will be moved to the next deadline. Any incomplete applications as of the rolling admissions deadline will be deemed ineligible.

  1. English Language Proficiency

Present valid and official results confirming English language proficiency typically through the  following options:

  • TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition Tests (target score: 79*)
  • IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator Exams (target score: 6.5*)
  • English Language Proficiency Test Waiver – Native and near native speakers are eligible for a waiver. For more information, please read the English Language Proficiency waiver policy. To apply for a waiver, visit  and application form here.

Score Validity and Reporting

You must submit official score reports confirming English language proficiency either from the TOEFL iBT (including Special  Home Test) or IELTS Academic (including Indicator) exams. For AUA application purposes, the TOEFL iBT/IELTS Academic scores are valid only if your test date was less than two years before the application submission date. You must ensure that official test scores are sent to AUA directly from the testing service, using AUA’s institution codes as noted below:

  • TOEFL iBT code 4151
  • IELTS Academic – 40 Baghramyan Ave, Yerevan

Alternative Assessment for Fall 2021 Applicants

AUA and the Undergraduate Admissions Committee will give preference to applicants who meet English language proficiency through the TOEFL iBT (including Special Home Edition) test, IELTS Academic (including Indicator) exam, or are approved for a Waiver. If you are unable to take any of these exams, we will offer an alternative through the Duolingo English Test coupled with a mandatory interview and two on-the-spot essays. However, if you are admitted to the American University of Armenia through an internal assessment, you risk not qualifying for certain merit-based scholarships and government or other programs that require standardized exams.

Important Notice for Applicants from Lebanon

Due to the recent tragedy in Lebanon, AUA will accept the verbal sections of the SAT and ACT exams in place of the TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic. We will not require the essay section. However, as the SAT and ACT are not exams that test for English language proficiency, you may be asked to partake in a mandatory interview and two on-the-spot essays.

* If any of your official test scores are below the minimum targets for the program to which you are applying, you may be offered conditional admission.

  1. Math Proficiency

Present valid and official results confirming math proficiency through the SAT or ACT exams. Fall 2021 applicants to the English & Communications and Politics & Governance programs will be waived from this requirement. Visit this link for a list of our target scores.

Score Validity and Reporting

You must submit official score reports confirming math proficiency directly from the College Board or ACT. For AUA application purposes, these exams are valid only if your test date was less than three years before the application submission date. Make sure to indicate AUA’s institution codes as follows to ensure proper receipt of the score report:

  • SAT code 7257
  • ACT code 6982

Alternative Assessment for Fall 2021 Applicants

AUA and the Undergraduate Admissions Committee strongly encourage Business, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, and Data Science applicants to meet our math proficiency requirement through the SAT or ACT exams. However, if you are unable to take one of these exams, we will offer an in-house alternative assessment for Fall 2021 applicants. This internal assessment will include an extended admissions interview to assess your quantitative and mathematical aptitude. Keep in mind that if you are admitted to the American University of Armenia through an internal assessment, you risk not qualifying for certain merit-based scholarships and government or other programs that require standardized exams.
