- Application for Admission to Graduate Study
Submit a complete application including all required supplements as outlined on this page and in the application instructions. We understand that fulfilling all parts of the application (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) may be difficult at this time given the Coronavirus pandemic, so the Graduate Admissions Committees will remain flexible and review delayed application materials on a case by case basis. Incomplete applications as of one deadline will be moved to the next available deadline. Any incomplete applications as of the rolling admissions deadline (regular admissions deadline for MSM) will be deemed ineligible.
2a. English Language Proficiency
Present valid and official results confirming English Language Proficiency typically through the following options:
- TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition tests (target score of 79)
- IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator exams (target score of 6.5)
- English Language Proficiency Test Waiver – Native and near native speakers are eligible for a waiver. For more information, please read the English Language Proficiency Test Waiver policy. To apply for a waiver, visit here.
- Internal Assessment – This assessment will be offered during an extended admissions interview when applicants may also be assessed on their speaking, listening, and written English language skills. The internal assessment will vary by program. Applicants should note that AUA’s Graduate Academic Programs and the Graduate Admissions Committee will give preference to applicants (with the exception of MBA) who meet English language proficiency through the TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition) test, IELTS Academic (including Indicator) exam, or are approved for a Waiver.
Score Validity and Reporting
TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid only if your test date was less than two years before the application submission date. You must ensure that official test scores are sent to AUA directly from the testing service, using AUA’s institution codes as noted below:

2b. Graduate Standardized Tests
Certain programs require that you present official Graduate School Admissions Exam results through the GRE (quantitative section), GMAT (quantitative section), or LSAT (including available home exams) depending on your selected field of study as outlined here. None of these exams are required of MA TEFL, PSIA, and HRSJ applicants. Some applicants may be eligible for a GRE, GMAT, or LSAT waiver. An internal assessment will be provided for any applicant unable to take the required exam.
GRE/GMAT Test Waiver: Applicants applying to MSM, MSE, IESM, or CIS, who meet the below requirements, may apply for a GRE/GMAT waiver.

To receive the GRE/GMAT waiver, email [email protected] with a copy of your AUA transcript with the subject line “GRE/GMAT waiver request”.
LSAT Test Waiver: Applicants to the Master of Laws program may be exempt from taking the LSAT exam. If you completed your undergraduate or graduate studies in law, complete a LSAT Waiver Request here at least 4 weeks prior to submitting your application. If your request for a waiver is denied, you must arrange to take the LSAT exam and assure that official test results are reported to AUA in a timely manner.
Internal Assessment: If you are unable to take the GRE or GMAT and are applying to the MPH, MSM, MBA, MSE, CIS, or IESM programs, download and attach the following Form detailing math and statistical concepts you have covered previously. You may be questioned about these in more detail during your interview. Please title this document “Math and Statistical Concepts”. LL.M. applicants unable to take the LSAT will be tested via in-house assessment. The assessment will include a short analysis of a legal brief and logical argumentation questions, similar to what can be found on the LSAT test.
Applicants should note that with the exception of MBA, those applicants who are able to take the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT or are approved for a waiver will be given preference.
Score Validity and Reporting: For admissions purposes, your GRE, GMAT, or LSAT scores are only valid for five years. This means you must ensure you took the exam no earlier than five years before the date you submit your application. To ensure we receive your official GRE, GMAT, or LSAT scores, make sure they are sent to AUA on or by the application deadline date using the following institution codes:

- LSAT code 0868
- Two recommendation letters
Recommendation letters must be completed on the AUA template by the Recommender. Your recommender must then submit the completed letter online or via email to [email protected]. While the recommendation letter can be downloaded directly from the application, we have included them here:

Application Fee Waiver for Residents of Artsakh: Residents of Artsakh are eligible to receive a waiver to the application fee. To receive a fee waiver, email [email protected] with a scan of your passport confirming you are a resident of Artsakh. Make sure to email your request ASAP and prior to submitting your application. If we approve your request, you will not need to pay the application fee.
- Proof of undergraduate degree or equivalent
At the time of application, you must hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) from, or currently be enrolled in your final year of studies at an accredited or licensed institution of higher education. Some programs require you to have a certain undergraduate degree or specific courses taken during your undergraduate education. Those programs and their requirements are listed below.

| HRSJ | You must write an article/paper describing one human rights issue and your suggested roadmap to tackle it and attach it to your application. The article/paper should have a font type -Times New Roman, font size – 12pt, be double-spaced and include 1,000 typed words. |
